SUPPORTER
Roman Catholic parents, ratepayers and members of the Eastern Rite in union with the See of Rome, must declare their support for Catholic schools.

Why should I support Catholic Schools?

  • Accurate school support designation gives a Catholic parent the legal right to send their child to a Catholic school.
  • A Catholic must be registered as a separate school supporter in order to vote for separate school trustees in a municipal election.
  • School support is one of the indicators the government can use to determine overall support for, and strength of, the publicly funded Catholic school system in Ontario.
  • School support is used to track demographic trends for educational planning purposes.

How do I find out if I’m registered as an English Catholic School Supporter?

  • Check your most recent Assessment Notice.
  • Check with your landlord.
  • Call the Voter Registration Department at the Toronto Catholic School Board.

I was a separate school supporter at my previous address.  Why has my designation changed?

When you move, your Catholic school support designation does not follow you.  As soon as any change is made to your address, even if you move from one apartment to another in the same building, your school support designation is defaulted to public support.

We don’t have children attending school.  Do we need to direct our school support?

Yes!  School support direction should be made even if you do not have children attending school.  All Catholic ratepayers are partners in Catholic education.  As well, your school support entitles you to vote for Catholic school trustees in municipal elections.  Ultimately, your commitment will make a difference to the future of Catholic education and demonstrate to the province, the ongoing support of the general public to the Catholic school system in Ontario.

Can I have one child in Catholic elementary school and one child in Public elementary school?

Yes, but before you can register your child in one of our Catholic schools, you will be asked to complete a form directing school support to English-Separate.

Will my taxes increase if I support Catholic schools?

No.  Changes to the direction of School support do not result in any additional cost to taxpayers.
